This map details Confederate General Robert E. Lee's bold attack on the center of the Union line on Cemetary Ridge. Having attacked the Union left and right flanks the day before, Lee believed the center of the Union line to be weaker due to having to send reinforcements to the flanks the day before. Note in the map the advanced position of the 8th Ohio and Stannard's Vermont men. These two groups of Union soldiers advanced out into the field and flanked the advancing Confederates as the drew near the stone wall at Cemetary Ridge. At that point, the advancing Confederates were receiving fire from three directions.
